THE ISLANDERS CHARTER

Here we share with you the principles that we try to apply as much as possible
on a daily basis and during our travels in a sustainable development approach.
The objective is quite simple: to have a positive impact on the economic and social plan of the populations
local communities while trying to minimize our environmental impact.
As “recent enlighteners”, our list is far from exhaustive. We hope, however, that
for most of you, they will already seem obvious.
So thank you in advance for your indulgence and don’t hesitate to share yours with us!

On how to travel
Travel to closer destinations, for which the least polluting means of transport will be preferred. Even if it means taking a little more time for the journeys.
A little Lao Tzu for the occasion “The good traveler has no itinerary and has no intention of arriving.”
BUT , the good news is that we will stay there longer 😄

On the destination before leaving
If we choose to go to destinations already frequented, we identify the low season. We need room to spread out our finest foutah on the beach anyway.

Once there
o We slow down the pace rather than maintain our usual frenzy…
o We favor activities without motor. The paddle will work our buttocks more than the jet ski anyway.
o Learn about local environmental issues. With regard to islands, fragile microcosms, access to water and waste sorting are often major issues.
o We came here mainly for the sun? So we assume and we take advantage of the heat that goes naturally with it, without the air conditioning.
o We keep our good habits. Just because we’re not at home doesn’t mean we have to forget everything. We continue to do our shopping at the local farm, our shopping bag tucked under our arm, our solid shampoo in the toilet bag and our pocket ashtray in the beach bag. We travel if possible by bike or on foot on the smaller islands. So yes, we know that with 2 children and 18 suitcases, it is sometimes complicated but most hosts offer a pick-up on arrival.

To sum up, we put ourselves in citizen of the world mode rather than just a passing tourist.
For those who wish, some sites to go further:
The unmissable Ademe website,
The GreenTripper site makes it super easy to calculate your footprint for each trip and offers different compensation options. The annual budget of CO2 emissions per person to limit global warming to 2°C is 2300Kg/year. We thus discover for example that an AR Paris/Palermo flight in economy class is 0.55T, an AR Paris/Bangkok is 3400kg.
The What are we doing site, with its positive tone and very educational infographics.
